Gay bar in the Caribbean… Who woulda thunk? In Aruba, the not "gay friendly" and not "mixed crowd" but straight-up, no-frills gay bar Jimmy's Place is the hotspot for locals and visitors alike who want to mingle, cruise and party.

This bar is totally gay (have I mentioned that yet?), a rarity in the Caribbean, packed with an eclectic group of gays and lesbians, thanks to the thriving gay scene and wealth of diversities, from ex-pats and local islanders (Dutch, Latin, Creole) to tourists and flight attendants. Not only can you take cruising one step up from a sailboat, but you can also feel unrestricted doing so. Most importantly, a gay bar somewhat reflects the island’s general acceptance of homosexuality, and Aruba is one of the most gay-friendliest islands in the Caribbean (St Barths, St Maarten and Curacao are somewhere in that mix). Expect to be cruised (tourists are few and far between for the gays that live here) and enjoy the friendly Dutch staff who encourage the local beer and body shots (much later in the night). Jimmy's gets packed on the weekends (after 1 am is the best time to go) but weekdays are also quite busy if you're looking for a nightcap... or just a long night.
